Tasting Notes

Crafted using traditional methods with base wine dating back to 2009 and aged on yeast lees for up to 42 months. Complex toast and citrus fruit notes leading to a creamy, fresh palate, the presence of fine mousse and cleansing acidity delivers an elegantly dry and memorable finish. The perfect aperitif - on its own. Will pair nicely with fresh oysters and a squeeze of Meyer lemon, Caesar salad or French-styled mushroom tart.

About Osawa Wines


It started one sunny afternoon in Tokyo… Taizo Osawa, a Japanese wine connoisseur, decided to scour the world in search of a vineyard to make his own fine wine. He chose America, Australia and New Zealand as potentials. A year and many miles later, Mr. Osawa arrived in New Zealand, fell in love with the country and decided that this was the place to start his future.

He bought 100 acres of sought-after land at Maraekakaho (pronounced Mar-eye–cacaho) in the renowned Mangatahi Valley. While the vines started to flourish and sheep were grazing, Taizo met famed winemaker Rod McDonald. Rod shared Taizo’s ambition to create beautifully balanced wines with minimal intervention and joined him as Osawa’s winemaker. The rest as they say, is history.

What makes Osawa so special?
An average bottle of wine is made from 1kg of grapes. Each bunch of grapes is typically 100g. Vines will carry about 40 bunches and so this equates to around 3 bottles of wine. So 3 bottles of wine to one long vine. At Osawa the vines are kept to between 15 to 20 bunches of grapes. With fewer bunches, the grapes are far tastier and make very fine wine. Less is more right? You certainly taste it when you drink Osawa Wines!
