Larry and Sharon Grassini purchased 104 acres of virgin land in the eastern Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County in the late 1980s. Nestled on ridge and valley, and inland enough that a north-south mountain range blocks the Pacific coastal breezes, the area is blessed with warm, sunny days and cool nights - the perfect spot for growing Bordeaux varietals. The Grassini family planted 35 acres exclusively to Bordeaux varietals in 2001, and in 2009, were one of the six founding vineyards who helped to establish the Happy Canyon AVA. Today, the Estate winery produces 4,500 cases annually under the watchful eye of winemaker Bradley Long, who got his start at Nickel & Nickel and Fantesca. Voted Best Santa Barbara County Winery two years running by the readers of the Santa Barbara Independent, this family owned and operated gem prides itself on producing small lots of rich, intense yet elegantly structured wines which represent the uniqueness of this special site and climate.
